In this section you will create a personal values statement. You also want to share your scholarly goals. To this end you can discuss where you are and where you want to go as a scholar and person. Some questions for you to consider: How does your current path connect with your preferred future? How are you going to reach your goals? What are your current strengths and weaknesses as a student? What motivates you to learn?

Scholarly Goals – Past, Present and Future

March 24th, 2021

I have always taken great pride in my work ethic and scholarly achievements. I am not the kind of person to do things ‘halfway’ and I can always keep myself busy. In fact, I have great difficulty relaxing after getting assignments and homework done because I think I can always be getting ‘ahead’ in some way. My education journey started at CNC in the Kinesiology program. I graduated with honours and realized towards the end that although fitness is a passion of mine, I didn’t want to make a career out of it. Next came UNBC and the Bachelor of arts degree. I chose English and Psychology because I have always enjoyed reading, writing, and inquiring about the human mind and the way it works. It was around this time I took an Intro to Education class and discovered my passion for teaching. A few short weeks later I decided that was what I would do next after completing my degree.

Here we are now at the end of Block 2 in the education program, and I can confidently say I am on the right career path. I thoroughly enjoyed my experiential practicum and it felt like that’s when most of my learning occurred. Or it felt like most of my learning occurred because I was able to put everything I had been taught into practice. I am sure I would not have had such a great experience without the knowledge of block 1 and 2 already behind me. Throughout this program so far, I have always put my best effort into my work and assignments. It was definitely a learning curve to transition from grades and percentages to a pass or fail system; however, it does leave the doors open for more creativity and self-expression. I find myself spending more time on the content and experiences and less time on meeting requirements, formatting or expectations. I am in charge of my expectations here and now.

As for the future, I can see myself becoming a vice principal and hopefully principal someday. I have always been a natural leader and enjoy taking charge of situations. It is both one of my greatest strengths and weaknesses. It is a strength because I am confident, motivated and organized to get things done. It is a weakness because I have difficulty putting trust into others to get things done when my own expectations of myself and my capabilities are so high. Needless to say, being the lead head organizer for an entire elementary school would be an incredible experience. I can also see myself attempting to write children’s picture books someday because of my background in English and passion for writing. The books out there today are so quirky and fun. Seeing my name on a cover would be pretty crazy. Lastly, I could see myself potentially teaching in high school in the future. I have been spending some time in high schools as a current TTUC (uncertified teacher teaching on call) and the students aren’t as scary as I anticipated them to be. It is wonderful to have so many opportunities to further my scholarly goals beyond what I have already accomplished.

How I see myself in 50+ years (Haha!)
